A Beginning of a Dream

How God Makes a Dream of Passion into Reality

We all have dreams we intend to fulfill one day. We dream of making a difference in people’s lives and of changing the world for the better. Altogether, these become a dream of passion bigger and beyond what we can do.

Yet we dare to be bold and chase these dreams down. So we begin the chase—the chase to realize these big dreams. As we do so, we soon discover that our limited nature hinders us from fulfilling these dreams, that not everyone shares the same enthusiasm and passion we have, and that the world does not bend the way we want it to.

When we dream, our hearts are laid bare to the world. This truth was captured by a song from the classic Disney fairy tale movie, Cinderella. She sang, “A dream is a wish your heart makes.” Because our dreams have direct links to our hearts—fulfilled or not—it can determine our happiness or frustrations later in life. And of course, life in this world is far from being a fairy tale. Oftentimes, dreams go unrealized and they become the source of our discontentment and emptiness inside.

When it feels as if the world is depriving us of chances to fulfill our dreams, we come close to giving up. However, giving up on our dreams should never be an option. We should never just settle for the meager “excitement” we generate by just dreaming and end up imagining the “what-ifs” and “if-only” scenarios for the rest of our lifetime. But sadly, this has been the fate some of us has accepted—never fully relishing the full joy and satisfaction of what it’s really like to make a dream into a reality.

As it is, making our dreams into a reality does not come easy—at least on our own. We realize that contrary to what we have been made to believe, we are not the masters of fate. We stand helpless against the world. But we must take heart for we do have the Master of the Universe whom we can lean on!

God, this is a task that I know is very bold… This is when I looked to the Heavens and asked for might. (Poems from the Sand II)

We ought to turn to the One who holds the earth in his hand—the One who causes all things according to his will and who makes all things impossible possible. We only need to ask Him to take our dreams into His hands and trust that by His power, He will fulfill them using us.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (1 John 5:14, NIV)

We can have great confidence that God will answer our prayers once we align our dreams with His will. When we believe that the sovereign, supernatural God is there to guide us into the full realization of our dreams, great joy awaits us and our hearts will be greatly satisfied. We must remain as dreamers and people of faith among the cynics and skeptics. A dream comes true when it is dreamed with the limitless power of God, so we must start chasing down these dreams with faith in Him.
